...'The Lookoff" to the Annapolis Valley
Hall's Harbor and Cape Split

New Brunswick offers dramatic views of the north shores of the Bay of Fundy and the smaller Minas Basin; Nova Scotia offers the south shore views. That's what led me to Hall's Harbor, but I saw a lot more than I expected.

Hall's Harbor was not the highlight of the day trip and, frankly, I'm glad I didn't go just for that (unless I totally missed a worthy section).

The highlight for me was what the Nova Scotians (or maybe Canadians in general) call a "lookoff." The Lookoff is simply a scenic view, an overlook. And this one was every bit worth the drive. It showed where the land meets the water, and the land was a lush green valley, the Annapolis Valley. Agricultural, therefore dotted with farms with red barns and rows of crops interspersed with small forests. It was a special sight for as far as the eye could see.

While up that way (in Kings County) I also took a drive up a spit of land called Cape Split that juts out into Scot's Bay and the Minas Basin.

This shallow stream was the only natural beauty on the (dirt-packed) East Dalhousie Road in Annapolis Valley.
